ARNAV KOTHARI

My name is Arnav and I am a university student in the USA. I study computer science and go to Tufts University.

My passion for Khilti Pari burns brighter as each year progresses. I started Khilti Pari in 11th grade with the hope of using theatre performances to change perspectives. After raising funds in Antwerp – with the community around us – we left for Jaipur in the summer of 2017. We were able to go into the villages and talk to the girls first hand. We found out about interesting details and problems they had to go through on a daily basis: a lot of them couldn’t attend higher education because they had to take care of ill parents or grandparents. Every year we learn more about their situation and how to make it better – in recent times we are making sure we provide not only their education for free but also sanitary products to help them stay healthy and clean!

My role is to make sure we are being productive with our time and funds. I handle the logistical details and the implementation of the work in India. Keeping an organization on track, no matter how big or how small, always help you learn the importance of working hard. The work you put forward should match the work you expect others to put forwards and that is something I strive for.

I personally love the challenge of finding a problem and providing a solution. Khilti Pari has pushed to think proactively in order to create opportunities for us to succeed and expand. For example, we shifted our focus from educating girls in public schools to shifting girls that are already attending public school to learn at a private school. This was something we decided to do because we saw more productive results from the girls that are given the opportunity to have good education over getting them to be educated in public schools. I would say in my life there has been no better organization for my personal improvement and growth than Khilti Pari, mainly for the reason that it has shown me the importance of being calm and focused.

Thanks for reading and learning a bit more about me and Khilti Pari.

What our sponsors say

'India is a country of beautiful history and culture that has produced some incredible inventions and individuals. But the country faces many issues with a large population living in poverty and educationally disadvantaged. It is especially challenging for the millions of young girls who don't get basic education, don't understand their own rights and hence have little chance to escape the vicious cycle of poverty. The Khilti Pari project attempts to attack this problem at its roots - directly working with the families of such young girls to try and ensure they stay within the educational system - allowing them to have a chance at a better future for themselves and their families. What's especially heartwarming for me is to see youths from my own community here in Antwerp raising funds and taking out time to take on this challenge head on. They are planning to personally travel to these areas at their own cost and work personally with such families. In some ways, they can better help and guide these girls by being closer in age and having a better outlook of options available to young people today. I fully endorse and support these young people and wish them great success in this endeavor.'  - Ravi Bhansali, Rosy Blue Group
