VIDHI PARIKH

Hey there! My name is Vidhi Parikh. I am currently studying Architecture at De Montfort University in Leicester. Khilti Pari has added an amazing touch to my life. As part of the core team, I’m in charge of administration and passive fundraising and together with Brinda, merchandise.

I won’t lie, the first few months I wasn’t as driven and dedicated to work for Khilti Pari as I am today. After doing a few exhibitions, bonding with the team and finally and most importantly, going to Jaipur, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Talking to the girls, learning about their problems and literally facing reality, really shocked me and got me thinking about girl child education more than ever. Its something I had never experienced before, being brought up in Belgium and being given so much privilege and countless education opportunities. Education is something I couldn’t ever take for granted after seeing the girls in Jaipur.

The skills Khilti Pari has taught me, I didn’t learn over 12 years of school. Over the past two years I’ve improved an immense amount at public speaking and learned a lot about communication, organisational skills and team work.  Khilti Pari continues to teach me new things everyday and this is definitely a blessing to be a part of.

What our sponsors say

'India is a country of beautiful history and culture that has produced some incredible inventions and individuals. But the country faces many issues with a large population living in poverty and educationally disadvantaged. It is especially challenging for the millions of young girls who don't get basic education, don't understand their own rights and hence have little chance to escape the vicious cycle of poverty. The Khilti Pari project attempts to attack this problem at its roots - directly working with the families of such young girls to try and ensure they stay within the educational system - allowing them to have a chance at a better future for themselves and their families. What's especially heartwarming for me is to see youths from my own community here in Antwerp raising funds and taking out time to take on this challenge head on. They are planning to personally travel to these areas at their own cost and work personally with such families. In some ways, they can better help and guide these girls by being closer in age and having a better outlook of options available to young people today. I fully endorse and support these young people and wish them great success in this endeavor.'  - Ravi Bhansali, Rosy Blue Group
